A few weeks ago, The Folk Implosion, the -original- Folk Implosion, released Music For Kids, a collection of our contributions to the KIDS soundtrack and a few songs from Dare To Be Surprised (the LP that followed KIDS) that shared some musical DNA.

The reviews have been good! In particular everyone was excited about the Pitchfork review, 8 stars! I was encouraged to read it. It was ‘really nice’ I was told. “Please don’t make me read it” I said (or thought, I can’t remember).

I caved and read it and yep, it was really nice. Then I did the bad thing, the thing that I always do when I start reading Pitchfork. I look at reviews for my other records. Thankfully they skipped over my last LP ‘Reason to Live’ or the review was so bad nobody mentioned it to me. That happens.

Anyway, I picked the scab, I read Eric Carr’s review of The New Folk Implosion from 2003 ‘cause it was beckoning from the bottom of the page. I pity-partied like it was 1999 (also not a good year for me).

Mr. Carr begins the review by cheekily asking if he can speak to me:

“Guys, could I have a minute to talk with Lou in private? Nice, thanks; I'll get to The New Folk Implosion in a moment”
