Dear Everybody,
Maybe you noticed that there is no new RAW Impressions podcast this week. Yes, for our first anniversary we took a week off. We delivered our free-form content for 52 weeks in a row and now we’re taking a teeny, tiny little break. It wasn’t planned. I’m in Europe with Dinosaur Jr., Adelle was in Wisconsin, now home. As season 2 loomed we were just too busy doing other things. Also, I want to change pod-things up a little bit and am needing to do a little brainstorming with 4-track Man. He’s not the easiest guy to get a hold of, so, rather than rush into episode 53, as the RAW Impressions audio engineer, I’m taking a breath. Inhale-Hold-Exhale.
You may not know from Season 1 with its flow of clever, fully realized, diverse content but I’m a simple monotasker. I can only pay attention to one thing at a time and, boy, learning those old Dinosaur Jr tunes took up a lot of bandwidth. I did a pretty good job playing those new-to-me tunes but I had to shut-up and lock-down . The break from RAW Impressions was just ‘cause I couldn’t do it. I also don’t have an E.U. power-adapter for my recording interface. I could have got one easily but I didn’t. My mind was full. I didn’t do the Christmas shopping I could have done in London either. I was in The Garage (the venue that hosted our 4-night Where You Been-fest) or I was in bed. Did I mention that I have a mildly arthritic knee?
Excuses aside, I will be home in a couple days and will finish my novelty-songs-of-the-70s 3-fer. So far it’s been The Streak and Convoy. Next up… I’m not saying. You’ll hear it. It’s the perfect hat-trick. And, once 4-Track Man answers my texts I’ll rope he and Mini-Music-Monday Guy into a voice-over sesh. I’m not worried. It’s weird that we didn’t do a show this week and there’s that shaky, nervous voice in my head telling me we’ve lost all our listeners but we had to not do what we had to not do.
This is the part of my message where I ask: what do -you- want from Season 2? Any features you want more of, any segments you want back? I will likely ignore any suggestions but please feel to leave them in the comments! Adelle will listen. The thing I’ve learned from this first year of podcasting is: I can only do what I -want- to do. Did anyone ask for a triad of 70s novelty song covers? No. The commercial re-creations were pretty good, have I done any more of them? No. I did all the commercials I cared about. If I wake up with another old jingle ringing in my head I might do it but I seem to have depleted that vein for now. Just kidding, please leave us a bunch of comments.
Thank you for listening, thank you for subscribing, double thank you for pay-subscribing. Speaking of which, RAW from The Pod vol. 3 is imminent and will be available for all you extra generous folks. It covers Pavement, Matchbox 20, The Shaggs, Taylor Swift etc. etc. I’m a little shocked at just how many there are! What a year!!
Sincerely,
Lou
I second a possible Jason guest appearance, and hopefully 4 Track man would be amenable to that too
I love the podcast so much. They way you and Adelle just chat and let the conversation flow naturally is great and easy to listen to, and warms my heart and makes me giggle. As a married person with a daughter about your age, and a musician husband (tho not a professional musician)...I find some of your chats so relatable. Would love more stories about your families, childhood, how you met, what you love about 90s lo-fi music, and more of the Lou originals. I love all Lou-related tunes, but some of your solo songs are so dang beautiful!
Also more from Adelle on how she balances life with you on the road, her creative output inspiration, and mental health chats.
I never miss an episode, and you are often my buddies on my commute into work. Makes driving through the traffic feel less lonely!
Can't wait for season two, but please enjoy some rest and a brain break over the holiday season!
