Catching up
podcast, grant, home
Last week we had our podcast interview with Melissa Auf der Maur come out. Her publicist reached out to us in January, saying Melissa requested to be on our podcast and would we be interested in having her on to discuss her memoir “Even The Good Girls Will Cry”.
This was a first for us! It was nice to be asked, even though interviews make Lou and I a little nervous and it’s not a big focus (if at all) of our podcast. Two copies of her book were sent promptly to us, Lou devoured his copy in one weekend while we were in Mexico for the Wilco Sky Blue Sky festival. He was often exclaiming while reading it, highlighting passages and telling me excitedly how good it was.
My brain has been riding the strange combo of menopause, ADHD and grief. I have not finished a book in years to be honest. I have a stack of books by my bedside that are all taunting me…started and stopped. Now that I think about it, I should move them. I don’t really need books adding to my guilt these days!
I finished “Even The Good Girls Will Cry”. I don’t have a lot of experience with memoirs, but to me, this is a meaty-rich-tasty-full-detailed-engaging-thoughtful read. I really liked it.
Thankfully Melissa’s press tour kept her very busy, it gave me a few months to read it and feel ready to “meet” her via the internet and conduct an interview. Hope you will check out our chat with her. Lou worked for days on a cassette recreation of a pivotal scene from the book, I’m curious to hear what folks thought of it! This was his way of honoring Melissa from Montreal (analog Queen).
In other news, I found out yesterday that I was approved for the grant I applied for! This grant is for “storefront improvement” in our little city/town of Greenfield. As a result we will be getting a proper hand painted sign outside our little shop at 44 Chapman St, a new front door and much needed outdoor lights. I’ve never done anything like this before and I can definitely say the grant process tested me. I felt like abandoning it a number of times. I am surprised and delighted it’s happening. I’m grateful. I thought about my mom every time I was ready to quit. My mom was so driven and she did so many things in her life that I know were deeply challenging, thinking of her really helped me across the finish line. God I miss her so much and wish I could share this small win with her.

We have a very cool outdoor festival in our town called The Green River Festival, Lou and I decided our next Pop-up Event at the Barlow Family General Store will be that weekend. Lou’s sister Abby is gonna join us, which I’m really excited about. She’s a therapist for her day job but is also becoming a part-time kick-ass reseller. Abby has great taste, loves thrifting and vintage goods. She’s understood the beauty of a velour cat “painting” and macrame owl hanging since…birth probably. Abby is going to gather select items for sale at our shop that weekend.
I made a lil poster for the pop-up.
This would be a very good weekend to make that road trip to Greenfield! We’d love to see you! Come shop with us during the day and dance with us that night at the festival. The lineup is so good.
Look at this insane pic Lou took of Izzy last night on their walk/scoot around the nabe. He said, no filter! Dang. So pretty.
Have you seen the video for Sunshine? We filmed that in our neighborhood.
Hope you are all moving thru the days with some sunshine.
with love,
Adelle

The shop looks fantastic! Hope to check it out sometime. In the meantime, I hear you and Izzy are co-tour managers this summer. Exciting stuff! Let me know if you need things to do in Lansing, Michigan on a hot-ass Saturday morning that are slightly better than sitting in a parking lot.
Sunshine wherever we can find it…
Yes girl, hide those books, it’s ok! Congratulations on your grant, that is so cool! Trust that your Mum knows and she’s loving it! ❤️
